Elon Eugene Byrd collection, 19uu-19uu.

The collection consists of materials belonging to the late Elon Eugene Byrd of the Parasitology Department at the University of Georgia. These materials were generated as a result of his research during World War II while he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was involved in malaria research and discovered a new species of flukes. He also kept a diary of some of his activities. Included in the collection are writings, lantern slides, film, plate blocks, Dr. Byrd's diplomas and journal of bird studies.

The sudden death from an apparent heart attack on 3 March 1974, ended 40 years of parasitological research and teaching for Dr. Elon E. Byrd, Professor Emeritus of Zoology at the University of Georgia in Athens. He was born in Richton, Mississippi, on 9 June 1905, where he received his early education. He received the B.
